Winner of the Alessandria Competition, French guitar virtuoso Gaëlle Solal delivers a buoyant, heart-filled, Villa-Lobos based programme she has put together after
several years of research and writing her own arrangements. Works of the great Brazilian composer alternate with delicate and exuberant compositions of Pixinguinha, Nazareth, Jobim and Dyens,
among others. A gem that merges Brazilian folk with Classical music into a unique, passionate album. {Eudora Records}
It's clearly obvious that guitarist Gaëlle Solal is well aware that good musicianship entails more than simply plucking strings on a guitar. Her playing
is characterized by a constant and organic expressive undercurrent which indicates that an insightful human being is behind the instrument. Rather than simply rattling off the notes on the
page, she shapes and moulds the contour of each individual phrase, and plies the rhythm in order to accentuate its Latin roots. Even repeated phrases sound fresh and distinct under her hands,
as she lends each one a personal character and feel. Hers is not typical generic guitar playing. Her assured command of the instrument ensures that the composer's intent is always clearly
evident in the music.
