All of you piano music enthusiasts out there lamenting the fact that new recordings of neglected or unusual piano works are few and far between will be glad to hear that this new dB Productions CD, featuring pianist Bengt Forsberg, is all about neglected or unheard piano works. Except for Fragments by Erik Nilsson, all the pieces presented here are world premiere recordings. Spanning more than 150 years, this collection of music mostly by Swedish composers -- Victoria Borisova-Ollas is a Russian born Swedish resident -- covers all styles and outlooks. From the Chopinesque Feuillets d'Album by Tor Aulin to the slightly jazzy Svaga nerver by film score composer Ylva Fred, this assortment of pieces leads you through a chronological history of Swedish piano music, by both male and female composers. The music of Henning Mankell brings to mind the piano sound of Debussy, and the style of Dorcas Norre is closer to Prokofiev or Bartok. One of Sweden's top pianists, Bengt Forsberg slips into each composer's character with ease and brings out their individual attributes.
