Antonio Vivaldi: Violin Concerto in C major, RV 182 Francesco Veracini: Ouverture No. 6 Antonio Vivaldi: - Cello Concerto in B-flat major, RV 788 - Violin Concerto in G minor, RV 320 - Sinfonia a 4 in D major, RV 786 Benedetto Marcello: Violin Concerto, Op. 1 No. 9 Antonio Vivaldi: - Violin Concerto in E major, RV 263 - Concerto for Two Violins in A major, RV521 The title of this recording has nothing to do with tourists losing all sense of direction within the many winding canals and waterways of Venice but rather, as the booklet notes point out, "the pleasure of discovery, so symbolic of the Baroque period, by presenting its listeners with lost works: music that was left unfinished, or fell into neglect, or found itself in Venice purely by chance." Baroque music collectors and enthusiasts will be glad to find many premiere recordings on this CD. Most remarkable is how the Infermi d'Amore ensemble, led by Vadym Makarenko, infuse each and every work with vivacity and especially musical skill. Unlike other period ensembles like Il Giardino Armonico as an example, who tend to exaggerate dynamics and tempos for the sake of novelty, these musicians bring out the music's natural dynamism with expressive vibrancy. And they can just as well solicit the high degree of gravitas found within the Largheto movement of the Cello Concerto. This could be seen as an early Christmas present for Baroque music fans. A new ensemble performing some hitherto unrecorded works, on a small, independent Spanish label focused on quality over quantity. Jean-Yves Duperron - December 2022 C major Concerto
