From the impressionist à la Debussy stylings of Castelnuovo-Tedesco to the blunt, angular and improvisatory techniques of Giacinto Scelsi, and the evocative melodies of Nino Rota, better known for writing some of the most memorable scores to movies like The Godfather, La Dolce Vita, War and Peace, etc... the essence of 20th century Italian piano music is the backbone of this new recording.

Finnish pianist and teacher Sanna Vaarni skillfully winds her way through this scenic Italian musical landscape as she seamlessly captures and projects the distinctive characteristics of each composer. The deep melancholy of Cipressi. The highly fluid momentum of the Risonanze No. 3 by Malipiero. The quirky agitated state of the Prelude No. 7 by Rota, and the mysterious sonorities within the Illustrazioni No. 4 "Krishna" by Scelsi.
