Many of the pieces on this collection of piano works by French composers benefit from this musician's technique and style. Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio's
ruminative, unhurried play is highly felicitous to the music at hand. He allows each note to bask in the afterglow of its own resonance, and yet none of the music sounds affected or sluggish. On
the contrary, everything seems to glow with energy from within. And when pinpoint accuracy, speed and sparkle are called for as in Feux d'artifice, he switches gears accordingly. His is the
best kitsch-free interpretation of Clair de lune I've heard in a long time. Both the Fauré and Ravel Pavanes are contemplative and brooding. Osorio well projects Debussy's
harmonic mistiness in Feuilles Mortes, and yet exudes intricacy and clarity in L'Egyptienne by Rameau.
I usually dislike collections that bring together music from disparate sources, but this one is so well curated that none of the pieces feel misplaced or out of context. The audio
recording is precisely distanced and clear. Now's your chance to take that trip to France you've been contemplating, albeit virtually.
