When is the last time you gave your sound system (no ipods allowed) a full workout and almost brought it to its knees. If you like to bask in an ocean of
sound and revel at the sonics generated by a brass ensemble and pipe organ well, this CD was meant for you. The great Olivier Latry on the Organ of the
Musikverein concert hall in Vienna with 6,138 pipes including not one but two 32' stops, joined forces with the 17 member Phil Blech ensemble which includes 6 trumpets, 4 horns,
2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba, and 3 percussionists to perform and record these special arrangements by bass trombonist Mark Gaal, which not only are highly
musically impressive, but could, in certain passages, possibly generate smoke from your loudspeakers.
After all, the pipe organ is a "wind" instrument so it blends perfectly well with a brass ensemble, and you can actually notice this beautiful combination of
sounds during the softer passages. But if you play the "St. Gregory The Great" form Ottorino Respighi's "Church Windows" loud enough, it could land you in jail. But seriously,
if you "think" you own an expensive sound system that can handle anything and reproduce music accurately, go for it. Guaranteed you will enjoy the experience.
