DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH - SYMPHONY NO. 7

DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH - SYMPHONY NO. 7 - LEONARD BERNSTEIN (conductor) - CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON 4777587

When you combine a great composer, amazing conductor, first rate orchestra, and throw in the nervous energy of a live recording, you obtain, in this case, the definitive recording of this 20th century masterpiece.

Leonard Bernstein holds a grasp and understanding of this symphony like no one else. From the most brutal, overwhelming moments of conflict to the darkest moments of desolation and death, he brings to the surface every possible emotion within this music. The Adagio movement is perfectly paced and solemn, and the portrayal of hope and victory in the last pages really shines after all the agony that precedes it.

Highly recommended. This recording is in a class by itself!
