Unlike Wendy (Walter) Carlos who during the 1960s and 70s revived interest amongst young people in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach by performing Baroque music on a modern synthesizer, Elaine Funaro is a musician who fosters continued interest in the harpsichord by commissioning and performing modern music on this Baroque instrument. She is one of the most recognized and respected exponents for the harpsichord, performing at music festivals around the world, and the Artistic Director of Aliénor, an international competition for new harpsichord music.

On this her latest recording, she performs the music of Edwin McLean, an American pianist and composer. His music sits at the crossroads of contemporary classical and contemporary pop, with here and there jazz influences and the stylings of Keith Emerson. It's highly compelling and most of all, highly effective at projecting the harpsichord's unique sonic characteristics, especially within the pieces for two or three instruments. Beverly Biggs and Rebecca Pechefsky play the extra instruments, and are both Early Music specialists.

Elaine Funaro plays all of this music with expressive energy, and definitely knows how to make the harpsichord speak. The audio recording itself is bright and clear, and really makes the instrument jump out of your speaker enclosures, as if sitting at a live set.
