CARL NIELSEN - SYMPHONIES 4-6 - HERBERT BLOMSTEDT (CONDUCTOR) - SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY - 028946098820 - DECCA 4609882
Carl Nielsen's 4th symphony, "The Inextinguishable" is one of the best symphonies of the early part of the 20th century. It is bold, dramatic,
and contains one of the most memorable, epic sounding themes ever put to paper. The 5th, influenced by the first world war, deals very much with
conflict and violence inflicted by human nature, and the 6th, subtitled "Sinfonia semplice" (Simple Symphony), turns out to be very serious and
interestingly complex.
Again, the Blomstedt readings capture these great works in rich, natural sound and deliver the full impact of this Danish composer's accomplished
and ingenious output.
