This recording sits at the opposite end of the spectrum when compared to Klemperer's version. It uses only 9 singers, one to a part, and a small baroque ensemble of players supported by organ continuo. Fast tempi and clear, transparent textures make for a performance that is buoyant, light and yet deeply moving. All the details in the writing are exposed to the listener and, it has often been said, God is in the details.
